Silly Xylia Excerpt One

Xylia was sitting in front of her new classroom's door, waiting for the teacher to let her in.

“Hmm...” Xylia hummed, as she rocked back and forth with her feet. “Waiting like this is SOOOO dull.”

At that moment, the door cracked open, and standing in front of it appeared to be a bespectacled lady with dyed pink hair, only darker than Xylia's hue. She also donned a light blue sweater, green sweatpants, and purple sandals. There was a nametag on her sweater, which read Mrs. Pepper.

“So… You're my new student?” Mrs. Pepper asked.

“Um… Yeah...” Xylia nervously replied back.

Mrs. Pepper smiled warmly. “Don't worry, everyone'll welcome you with open arms, sweetie. Now...”

She then looked at the class, as they were doing their usual stuff. She clapped to bring them to her attention.

“Class? We have a new student joining us today!” Mrs. Pepper announced, as she eyed Xylia. “Come on in, it's fine...”

Xylia walked in, as she was being starred at. Standing in front of the class, she nervously gulped.

“Um… Hi? I'm Xylia Footsies and… Um… my parents own a restaurant… I like games...” Xylia said out loud, clearly frightened by her new surroundings.

“That'll be all.” Mrs. Pepper commented, as she scanned the class, looking for a seat to sit Xylia at. “Hmm… Let's set you over near Natalie.”

Xylia nodded in understanding, as Mrs. Pepper pointed to where Natalie was. Walking past the other students, some of which was looking at her with interest, she sat down next to the desk where Natalie was.

For Natalie herself, she was currently drawing in her notebook. She was of a mixed race, and was bespectacled much like Mrs. Pepper is. A hat in the shape of a tomato was topped on her head, with some bright purple hair sticking out as well. She also wore a shirt reading Geek, with an arrow pointing up, pink sweatpants with some holes on the knees, and orange and blue sandals. Currently, she was drawing something, which could pass off as cartoony.

“Hmm...” Natalie mused. “Should I give her a mace? Or anything else?”

“Um, hello?” Xylia greeted her neighboring student.

“Whoa!” Natalie yelped back, as she saw who she was talking to. “Yeesh, don't do that...”

“Sorry...” Xylia apologized. “I just wanted to totally know what you were drawing.”

“Eh, it's only a medieval anteater. Nothing too special.” Natalie explained. “And just between you and me… I prefer to be called Natz. The Z makes it sound cool.”

“Sounds fair.” Xylia nodded. “My parents totally named me after my grandma, on my mom's side.”

“Interesting...” Natz replied back. “I've always imagined the name Xylia to belong to some kickin' lady who doesn't take any gruff from nobody. You though… Paints a completely different picture.”

“Well, if it totally helps...” Xylia commented. “I can bake some pretty mean cookies?”

“I'll take your word for it...” Natz nodded. “By the way, you mentioned gaming. What kinda games do you like?”

“Eh, your usual stuff...” Xylia answered.

“I see...” Natz nodded. “I'm not that much of a gamer, I just like doodling stuff.”

“Yeah… I been meaning to get into art myself.” Xylia explained. “I just can't totally think up anything I wanna draw.”

Natz smiled warmly. “Well, being you're new here in school, and most likely in town… Maybe I outta show you?”

“Yeah. Cause I'm gonna totally need it...” Xylia replied back.
